film | "the flickr documentary"

the idea
the great thing about photos is they are cheap, quick, but packed with valuable infromation.  Even images that seem void of any subject matter tell a story of the setting, time of day, random artifacts, etc.  So much can be extracted from images.

Images also are the basic units in creating film.  Taking continuous photo shots and placing them together will create a slideshow that resembles choppy film.  If someone carried around a camera all day, just streaming photos as they continued their day, it would create a documentation of that day...almost a diary in photos.

the execution

create a film/short story about a man that only has short term memory.  He has to take continuous photos throughout his day to create a diary of his life.  He lives in NY so the images are rich in content and experience.  But this is les of a show or anyone except just a way for him to remember what happened during the day.   People see him and wonder why is he just shooting random photos over and over again.  Then he passes away...seemingly disapearing into oblivion.  But he has left something behind.

He has a massive Flickr account that has photos for each day for the past 5 years.  You could go in and click slideshow for any day and see what his day was like or even his travels throughout the city.  he has to have an interesting occupation that keeps the content interesting for the viewers but it opens up a whole new world.

In addition to this, the actor has to actually execute this on some level to allow real people to go on Flickr to find the account and see sample slideshows, etc.

my requests
1. Let me be part of the creative process

2. Share in profit of film

bar media | "where nobody knows your name"

the idea
the idea stems from two insights; chat roulette is less creepy and more fun when it's done in a group/party setting and bars tend to have people looking to connect with others. The bar stool usually has a person or two that chats with the bartender, watches the screen, or just talks to anyone next to them. Wouldn't it be much more interesting if they could have a random connection with someone at another bar?

the execution
Set up stations or kiosks at the bars similar to the electronic games but it is only to connect via a bar networked chat roulette. Because the network is restricted to bars it lacks the opportunity for nude creepers but heightens the entertainment from drunk participants. There could be a series of interactions such as buying a drink for someone via network, playing games against each other, 21 questions, never have I ever, etc. Plugging in predetimed activities would make the connections easier.

Revenue would be generated from bought drinks, playing certain games, connecting to okay would cost $0.75 and even marketeer could add their own games and branding for fixed price

my requests
1. Give me 10% of the revenue
2. Let me be part of the alpha test

website | "drinkpages"

the idea

this idea was inspired by Casualsass.  we were planning on just going out for drinks one night and realized how do we get recommendations for a good place to drink other than the typical "this is a good bar" or " the drinks are pricey" or " they make good cocktails".  there are no resources on the web that gives you the adequate informnation for going out for drinks.  So why not follow the same model as menupages and make a website dedicated to providng exclusively drinks menu.

the execution

A nearly identical experience that localizes drink menus by area and neighborhood. but instead of cuisine type it tells you drinks by liquor.  So you can see what drink menus that consist of tequila drinks or draft beer or gin drinks or scotch bars with Hell's Kitchen.  Users can rate by the liquor selection available, bartenders,  crowdedness, and qaulity of mixing.

my requests

1. give CasualSass 15% of revenues

2. Let me help put it together

novel/film | "retired stories"

the idea

every life is an ongoing story.  The story gets progressively longer as you continue to live.  Within each of these stories there are chapters, entries, and moments that are much more powerful, transcendent, and eventful than others.  These are the ones we hold on to and retell and share with others.  What happens when your life ends? Should your story die with your physical body?  Defintely not.

I propose someone goes to retirement homes and retirees to capture their stories.  The baby boomers did not grow up in a world thats as highly documented as ours.  The stories exist but are invisible. Stories of perserverance, fear, love, tragedy, inspiration, and many other characteristics that can be of value to the world.

the execution

the format for these stories could be placed in several 'containers':

- Collected as chapters in a novel

- A weekly radio show

- A film of the best stories curated from across the country

- Chronological stories that are tied to historical moments.  This will give another perspective on history.

my requests

1. let my grandmother contribute a story

website | "lyrical lexicon"

the idea

if you ever pick up a book of quotations, it is an extremely simple structure...you chose a topic and it provides quotes.  i wish the world was organized similarly and everything was segmented by topic or theme.  one area of extreme interest to me is an art form that doesn't get as much recognition for wordplay and interesting literary tools are rap lyrics.  by organizing lyrics by themes such as love, pride, art, and/or courage it provides a much needed context to deliver its strength.  this approach would breathe new life into its representative value.

the execution

this should be similar to wikipedia in the sense that it is all crowdsourced.  Users would submit, approve, and edit entries.

Users can go in under 'life' and find a quote from Jay-Z like:

"No compass comes wit this life, just eyes
So to map it out, you must look inside
Sure books can guide you but your heart defines you.."

Beach Chair - Kingdom Come album

This could also be expanded into other genres of music such as R&B, Country, and any other popular music genre.

my requests

1. put me down as a co-founder

2. 5% of earnings

dining | "pandora's lunch box"

the idea

there are many sites and services to help urbanites find dining options like yelp, menupages, citysearch, etc.  each has their own angle at providing options based on cuisine, menus, and ratings but none seem to categorize them together into clusters of similarities.  there are so many moments when people ask for my personal recommendations and preface it with "somewhere thats kind of like x restaurant..." then i have to go through my mental restaurant rolodex to match characteristics.

the execution

just how pandora music engine catalogs music, there needs to be a service that catalogs restaurants.  a developer needs to build a database that takes into account all the factors that create a dining experience such as price, ratings, neighborhood, atmostphere, and so on.  how to gather data either through API, manual, or data mining would be a decision during development.  the service once completed should have a site, smartphone app, and global services.  the service would simply allow you to plug in a restaurant and start your discovery of similar restaurants.  this would also come in handy for travelers that want similar dining experiences in new cities or abroad.

my requests

1. 20% equity

2. Credit as a creator

written web content | "listen to the web"

the idea

the web is a bottomless pit of written content. reading is inherently an active experience while other forms of media like television and radio are very passive. living a lifestyle of multitasking, reading becomes an experience that prevents me from dividing my attention.  why does it have to be that way? I want to be able to read an article while shaving or anything else that pulls me away from the computer screen. with all the text to speech capabilites their should be an alternative experience...

the execution

this service would be a website that helps users create a playlist of content for reading later and aloud.  this playlist can be created by using similar tactics utilized by services like instapaper save content while surfing the web.  Once a user populates their reading playlist, the articles are placed in a carousel interface.  Within this interface, you can press play and hear the article being read to you while you go about your business.  this would increase my content consumption substantially.

my requests

1. 5% equity

travel | "a new reality"

the idea

as the world gets flatter, does that disrupt the travel industry? we travel for experiences...experiences we cannot find anywhere else.  the cost for travel to reach these "exotic" destinations is declining. transportation is becoming quicker.  digital media creates another channel for rich exposure to these destinations. the ability present a remote experience is getting more difficult.  we may reach a point where traveling the 'physical' world is  less exotic proposition. so what is the next evolution in travel?  it may be qualified by the amount of reality television we produce and consume, but people want exposure to other people's lives.  An individual's rich, personal experiences are the most celebrated yet highly unattainable part of life. so why not allow reality for one person be a destination for another?

the execution

this follows an auction model where consumers bid to participate in someone's exchange program.  both parties involved, the destination and the bidding traveler, operate similar to dating.  both fill out a  profile that details their life characteristics; job, income, location, etc. It is placed in a database that allows travelers to browse for 'trips'.  as a destination, you're open slot can be when you go on actual vacation or allow a traveler to provide a real vacation.  a destination must be absent in order for their to be a truer experience.

upon winning the auction, is another stage of approval from friends, family, and others of the destination.  after that an itinerary is developed to explain how the traveler will live on their trip. day to day ways of integrating the traveler in the destination's routine habits and experience. a deposit would be necessary to cover stolen or damaged property. For additional charges the services can include :

- a 24 hr. documentation team (cameras and video)

- fully edited DVD of trip

- security services

my requests

1. provide 3 free 'trips'

2. credit for the idea in Wikipedia

3. shoot a documentary about this niche in the travel industry and i get a 20% share of profits (see how i extended it into additional revenue sources)

twitter | "tweetstyle battle"

the idea

twitter has become a great communication tool but the use of it has yet to really evolve into something more collaborative. there are many ways to collaborate but arts present a ripe opportunity.  rap music may be especially suited as the quick, rapid fire, staccato flow can be comparable to the quick burst of 140 character messages. this made me think, why don't have twitter enable people to have their own rap battles on full display within the twittersphere?

the execution

create battle rooms (a la chat rooms) where users can participate in a rap back and forth. rooms can be private or public with no limits to number of entrants.  upon entrance into a room, a user is placed on a 'side' of the battle and spectate or enter the battle. the page shows the ensuing battle with commentary from the spectators. Every member of the battle has 90 seconds to exchange 4 bars or tweets of lyrics. based on their performance, they are voted to stay in the battle for passed on the next battler in the queue. Unique programming can include:

- friday battle off for a prize

- celebrity battles (the real_shaq vs. ochocinco)

- top battles of the day are inducted into the hall of fame

my requests

1. let me help develop the site

business | "old-sourcing"

the idea

a friend recently told me a story of her grandfather fully cataloging his entire DVD collection in alphabetical order, list of actors, by awards received, and in chronological order of release.  the retiree spent his countless hours creating a personal database for pleasure.  i recognized the potential this age demographic has as a workforce.  companies are seeking products to cater to the mass baby boomer market but what about their workforce potential? we should leverage the time retirees have on their hands. plus social security checks can only do so much.

the execution

partner with nursing homes and retirees to recruit for these jobs. the company should offer services:

- build databases

- digitize books

- fact checking/proofreading

- web content organization, tagging, and categorization

- personal assistants

my requests

1. provide a free part-time personal assistant

2. some equity
